Mitchell Starc took 10 wickets in the match as Australia bounced back from last week's shock defeat by Bangladesh to win the second Test in Darwin.
The left-arm fast bowler made regular breakthroughs in both innings, using pace and late swing to unsettle a Bangladesh batting line-up that had performed so well in the opening match.
The comprehensive victory brings Australia level in the series and eases some of the pressure that had built on the side after their unexpected loss.
Bangladesh had arrived in Darwin full of confidence, and their supporters had hoped the team could build on one of the most notable results in the country's Test history.
“Last week was a wake-up call, and the bowlers answered it in the most emphatic way possible.”
But the visitors struggled to cope with the hosts' attack on a surface that offered bounce and carry, and wickets fell steadily whenever partnerships began to form.
“That was a complete response from a side that had clearly been stung by last week's result,” said one former international turned broadcaster.
Australia's batters also put together a solid first-innings total, giving the bowlers the platform they needed to press for victory.
The Bangladesh camp is expected to review its approach with the batters in particular, after a first Test in which they had looked far more assured.
Selectors had faced questions after the first Test about the balance of the side, but the performance in Darwin is likely to quieten that debate for now, with the bowling unit in particular reasserting its reputation on home soil.
Attention now turns to the remainder of the tour, with both sides set to name their squads for the next fixture in the coming days.
